TROMPE L'OEIL

Trompe l'oeil is a French term meaning to "fool the eye." Many murals contain elements of trompe l'oeil using perspective and subject matter from the surrounding room. For example, the window painted here has hand-painted woodgrain molding that matches the other real window moldings in the room.
And sometimes just for fun, a real element is added to a painted one (such as a real door handle on a painted door.) Or sometimes an architectural element or piece of furniture is painted to appear to be made of something it is not. For example, a painted marble finish on what is actually wooden molding or a painted woodgrain finish on what is actually drywall or plastic, etc.
